All Things Indy

Growing Up with Indiana

Happy Mom’s Day

In an idealized world Mother’s Day looks like a Pinterest-worthy breakfast in bed made lovingly by dad and the kids while mom sleeps blissfully and undisturbed. Sometimes everyone is sick and is hacking at 5:30am and needs some medication. The latter was our day. We still made the most of it. M made French toast (shy of enough bread for everyone so we split it. Only one glass broken in the process.) to kick off the morning, then slipped off back to bed. Indy and played and strategized a picnic. A fun run around at the park in the evening then back home for an incredibly delicious meal a la Trader Joes and Monsters, Inc by request. All in all, a great Mom’s Day.

Hair-do

I’m loving the length of Indy’s hair right now! Fun with braids and twists. The iPad was handy to keep her still!

Faery Hunting

Today we went to a party featuring an interactive play group cast as fairies. We went looking for them in the woods, sang songs and helped the princess find her one true love. Indy was amused but skeptical. Later this evening all of us at home (animals included) were taking turning being kings and princesses. Let the princess parties begin.

Daddy’s Humor

About 2am this morning Indy came padding down the hall. We’ve asked her not to wake us up if she gets up early – and while she obeys, her little footsteps wake me up anyway. I heard her sit down next to the doorway. She waited for about 5 minutes, then she got up and laid down in the hallway. After a few minutes I grabbed my pillow and took her to the living room and laid down with her on the couch. Less than a minute later she was out and I was wide awake. I decided to leave her and sneak off back to bed. I left her with my pillow and a comfy blanket.

In the actual daylight morning, Mike went out to wake her up and she pointed down to the pillow and said, “how did that happen?!” (Her pillow case is blue and mine is white). Before Mike could respond she added, deadpan, “I didn’t do it.” Then, keeping her best daddy routine up said, “speaking of pillows, who wants some breakfast?”

Indy likes to be the hair stylist. She has been practicing her braids and putting in barrettes on mommy and daddy.

International Fair

Indys room featured Egypt at her school’s International Fair. They told us fun facts, did a dance (walk like an Egyptian anyone?), share fun and interesting facts and even made Egyptian food and crafts! It was impressive and cuteness overload to watch her and her classmates tell us about the “mommy cases”
